Abstract

The present Regional Act lays down provisions regulating professional fishing in regional waters as well as aquaculture with a view to, inter alia, enhancing autochthonous fish species and ensuring the conservation of aquatic ecosystems. Firstly, the Act provides for the institutional framework in the fisheries and aquaculture sector: articles 3 to 5 define the competences of the Region, the Provinces and the Regional Agency for the Protection of the Environment; article 6 provides for the establishment of the Advisory Commission for Fisheries and Aquaculture. The regional authority shall be responsible for drafting and adopting the programme for fisheries and aquaculture, in accordance with the criteria specified by article 7. Article 11 lists out the activities for which subsidies may be granted.
