Abstract

The Region shall establish protected areas with a view to preserving, protecting and, where necessary, restoring the environment and landscape and ensuring at the same time the proper utilization of the regional territory. To these ends, the Regional Council shall elaborate the Regional Plan on Protected Areas by taking into account the classification laid down in article 5 (art. 2) and by following the legislative procedure described in article 6. Protected areas are classified into (a) Nature Parks, (b) Nature Reserves (which are subdivided into total, special and oriented reserves), (c) Equipped Areas and (d) Safeguard Areas. Articles 23 to 26 concern the adoption of the protected areas’ plans, plans on forest restoration, naturalistic plans and intervention plans. In case of infrigement, the sanctions laid down in article 4 shall be applied.
