Furthermore, specific forest restoration plans shall be adopted in respect of each “forest system” with a view to ensuring the rational management and conservation of the forest heritage of the Sicilian Region (art. 2). These plans shall be coordinated with the principles and objectives of the general plan referred to in Regional Act No. 52 of 21 August 1984. All mining activities shall be prohibited in forests and areas falling within the forest domain. Articles 4 to 9 make provision on the expropriation of lands to be included in the forest domain and compensation due to owners. Further provisions deal with prevention of forest fires (arts. 16-18).
