Abstract

This By-law concerns use of recreational water in the City of cape town for the purposes as specified in this By-law. "Recreational water" means any inland water body, lake, river, stream, wetland, vlei, dam, estuary or portion thereof, which is owned or managed by the City, and includes the verges or banks of such areas, against which water may tidally, periodically or seasonally rise, and which is also owned or managed by the City. Activities include, amongst others, fishing. The By-law places restrictions on the use of recreational water and prohibits various acts such as fishing for certain species, fishing with certain methods, capture or kill animals, introducing alien species, polluting of water, remove aquatic vegetation, etc. In addition, no person may drain, abstract, or divert any water from any recreational water without the prior written permission of the City. The City establish Water Body Advisory Committees for a specified recreational water or group of recreational waters comprised of interested and affected organisations, groups or bodies and may adopt a code of practise drafted by the Water Body Advisory Committee for a specific recreational water.
