This Act shall take effect upon its approval by the Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval.
Abstract

A new a new Chapter 7 is added to Division 2 of Title 3 of the Code of the Northern Mariana Islands Commonwealth. This Act provides rules for the manufacture, importation of and placing on the market of food, drugs and cosmetics. Food means any article manufactured, sold or represented for use as food or drink for human beings, chewing gum, and any ingredient that may be mixed with food for any purpose whatsoever and drugs shall include drugs for animals. Article 2 provides rules for the sale of food, advertisement, packing and labelling, importation of food and gives powers to the Secretary of the Department of Public Health for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands to identify food standards. Sale of adulterated food or manufacturing, preparing, preserving, packaging or storage for sale any food under unsanitary conditions is prohibited. Article 3 regulates the importation and sale of drugs. Other provisions of this Act deal with administrative matters and enforcement. (completed by 4 Schedules)
