Abstract

These Regulations prescribe rules in order to ensure a general good sanitary and public health condition in Papua New Guinea. Part I lists interpretations and defines the application sphere of the Regulations. Part II prescribes general sanitary conditions with respect to the conveyance of refuse, the keeping of animals and domestic birds, the cleansing of stables, the cleanliness of premises and the prevention of spreading of pests, etc. Part III contains rules relative to sanitary conveniences. Part IV contains rules relative to the removal and disposal of night soil and refuse. Part V concerns the prevention of pollution of water supply, i.e. a river, spring, stream, water course, creek, swamp, waterhole, lake, pond, tank, dam or reservoir and prohibits the use of a water supply that in the opinion of the Local Medical Authority, is or may be injurious to health. Part VI concerns the prevention of spreading of mosquitoes and in relation with this the proper storage of water, destruction, etc., of plants retaining water and other measures to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs. Part VII concerns the operation of waste incinerators. Part VIII contains provisions of miscellaneous character. (80 regulations)
