Objectives of the Authority are: (a) to protect, restore and enhance the quality of the environment and maintain an ecologically sustainable development; (b) to reduce the risks to human health and prevent the degradation of the environment, by promoting pollution prevention, controlling the discharge of harmful substances, minimising the creation of waste by the use of appropriate technology, encouraging the re-use and recycling of materials, adopting minimum environmental standards, promoting community involvement in decisions about environmental matters, conducting public education and awareness programs about environmental matters. For said purposes the Authority shall: (a) formulate and promote plans for environmental protection; (b) publish reports and information relevant thereto; (c) coordinate the collection of information; (d) promote educational training. The Authority is required to make and submit to the Minister a report of the state of the environment every two years.
