As competent authority for the purposes of the Directive, the Agency shall, amongst other things, keep itself informed of developments in best available techniques. A new section added to the Environmental Protection Agency Act 1992 prescribes that the Minister may, for the purposes of relation to environmental protection, make Regulations providing for the carrying out by the Agency or a local authority of environmental inspections in connection with the performance of a statutory function of the Agency or a local authority in relation to environmental protection. The Agency may revoke, or suspend the operation of, a waste licence in certain circumstances.
