Abstract

In accordance with the provisions of the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Act of 2001, the Central Government made these Rules to amend the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Rules of 2003. These Rules provide for the registration of extant plant varieties and state that the Registrar shall register every farmers’ variety which is an existing variety within five years from the date of its notification and register other extant varieties within three years from the date of it notification subject to conformity to the criteria of distinctiveness, uniformity and stability as laid down under the Act.
