Abstract The strategy details the need for action to ensure the long-term protection of the Glarus protection forest. In accordance with the plan, a protection forest is a forest that protects people, animals, goods and infrastructures from mud flow, floods, and driftwood. It also protects against landslides, erosion, avalanches and rockfall. The protective forest therefore serves to protect from these threats or limit their damage to a large extent. The strategy states the goals of protective forest management, describes the current state of the forest, compares this with the requirement profiles (NaiS) and specifies the need for action. It further shows the necessary silvicultural measures and explains how measures are implemented by the forest services and the private forest owners. Short-term, mid-term and long term goals are distinguished. The general organizational structures as well as the financing and costs of the undertakings are prescribed in the final chapter.
