Abstract

The purpose of this Law, consisting of 8 sections, is to regulate and control cattle and other animals grazing in Ekiti State and the matters connected therewith. The Law defines the following relevant terms: cattle, commissioner, livestock officer, local government, other ruminants as sheep and goats, owner. The Law prohibits any person from grazing cattle or other ruminants which are under his control in area the Governor has not designated as a ranch. The Law prohibits nocturnal grazing and restricts cattle movement and grazing at defined times. Other matters covered by this Law concern: publication of order by the Governor; impounding of cattle or other ruminants and related report, including: designation of an area where confiscated cattle are to be taken, destruction of property or farm products by cattle and its consequences; power of the commissioner to make regulations; offences and penalties.
