Abstract

The Act aims at preventing cruelty towards animals, thus it calls for the implementation of the Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes and establishes the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee. The Act provides for licences required for teaching and research involving animals, for inspections to verify how animals are treated and defines offences and penalties.
