Abstract The President, with a view of gradual increase of the use of renewable energy sources, creation of new environmentally friendly generating capacities, provision of technical and technological re-equipment of existing hydroelectric power stations on the basis of modern technologies, efficient water resources management with the application of international best practices, improving the balance of energy resources and ensuring meeting the demand of enterprises and the population in electric energy, determines the following priority directions of hydropower generation: (a) gradual creation of new and modernization of existing generating capacities in the electric power industry due to the widespread use of renewable clean energy sources; (b) introduction of modern and comprehensively substantiated scientific and technical solutions in the design and construction of large, medium, small and micro- hydroelectric power stations and, on this basis, increasing the share of hydropower capacities in the structure of the energy balance of the country; (c) ensuring the all-round stimulation of careful attitude to the water potential of the nation, preservation of the existing flora and fauna in the construction of hydraulic structures, as well as effective water resources management; and (d) fulfillment of obligations and compliance with ratified international treaties in the field of protection and use of transboundary watercourses and international lakes.
