Abstract This Presidential Decree approves the Statute of the National Institution for Biodiversity and Conservation (INBC). The Statute, consisting of 24 articles divided into five Chapters and three Annexes, establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned administration, entitled to ensure the elaboration and execution of the policy for the sustainable management of biodiversity and the National System for the Conservation of the Environment. INBC has the following duties: a) implement policies and strategies in the field of biodiversity conservation and management of Environmental Conservation Areas; b) ensure the preparation of programmes and plans for the management of national and transboundary environmental Conservation Areas; c) carry out research on biodiversity; d) carry out studies for the awareness and the preservation of the genetic heritage, the rational management of flora and fauna and the conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity; e) re-classify and create Environmental Conservation Areas and ensure their sustainable management; f) collaborate in carrying out scientific research; h) implement international conventions and protocols relating to nature conservation and management of biological diversity resources; i) define the legal framework for the conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity; j) Control and supervise all actions for the exploration, use, protection and conservation of biodiversity resources; k) supervise the entry and exit of fauna and flora products and by-products from ports, airports, maritime and land borders and railway stations, etc. Full text Portuguese Website www.legis-palop.org References - Legislation Repeals Presidential Decree No. 10/11 creating the National Institution for Biodiversity and Conservation Areas (INBAC).
