Abstract This Presidential Decree approves the Regulation of the National Integrated System for Maritime Traffic Control (SNICTM/VTS). This Regulation, consisting of 53 articles, divided into six Chapters and 3 Annexes, aims at contributing to national maritime safety, prevention of accidents and marine pollution. It establishes the organs and their competencies, the criteria and co-ordination procedures, operational and technical requirements of equipment and assistance allocated to monitoring services of the national maritime traffic, certification and recognition of international certificates. In addition, it also establishes offences, penalties and fees to be applied to all the maritime traffic control activity that develops in areas under national jurisdiction, in ports and inland waters, the general framework of maritime safety and the safety of life at sea.
