Abstract The President, with a view of improvement of state management system of radioactive waste and ensuring radiation safety, establishes that the Ministry of Emergency Situations shall be appointed the body of state administration in the field of handling radioactive, waste, which carries out: (a) implementation of state policy, including scientific and technical; (b) coordination of activities of the national state administration bodies, other state bodies (organizations); (c) ensuring the fulfillment of international obligations assumed by the Republic of Belarus; (d) submission to the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus of strategy for handling of radioactive waste; and (e) exercise of other powers in accordance with legislative acts. The Ministry of Energy shall organize the creation and shall ensure the functioning of the system of long-term storage and disposal of radioactive waste, also by constituting a specially authorized organization - a national radioactive waste management operator.
