Abstract This Presidential Decree approves the Regulation for the Management of Waste originated from Hospital and Health Services. This Regulation establishes standards for waste produced in centres providing health care, including medical activities of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases in humans or animals, research activities, as well as other services, whose characteristics require different processes for the handling of their waste, and require pre-treatment for their final disposal. These types of waste are classified, according to their characteristics, into General, Infectious, Sharping, Chemical and Radioactive, including also those wastes listed in the Strategic Plan for Management of Waste originated from Hospital and Health Services, complying with the specific guidelines according to National legislation or in accordance with the relevant environmental agency.
