Abstract

The Ministry is the central executive body which activity shall be directed and coordinated by the Cabinet of Ministers. The sphere of competence of the Ministry regards the implementation of the state policy in the sphere of the civil protection of the population and territories against technological and environmental disasters, liquidation of the consequences of Chernobyl catastrophe, radioactive waste management, the state mining supervision, and also hydrometeorological activity. The main tasks of the Ministry shall be: 1) coordination of arrangements for the civil protection of the population and territories against technological and environmental disasters and soil rehabilitation; 2) liquidation of the consequences of Chernobyl catastrophe; 3) protection of the population against ionizing radiation. The Ministry shall carry out the following functions: 1) radioecological monitoring; 2) validation of technical regulations and standards; 3) ensuring the functioning of the state registration system of radioactive waste and the storage points thereof; 4) inspection as regards transport, disposal of hazardous waste, recycling of hazardous substances.
