Abstract This Presidential Decree approves the Programme for the Production of Bovine Meat. The Programme aims to increase and improve quantitatively and qualitatively the production of beef meat in the existing business livestock farms and encourage the emergence of others. In addition, it aims at the progressive satisfaction of the animal protein consumption needs with resort to national production. Its specific objectives are: Increase the production and the internal productivity of meat through the adoption of practices and techniques that are feasible, that have a bearable cost and that can be disseminated at the level of livestock farms oriented to the market; Improve production conditions in business livestock farms; Specialization of breeding, rearing and fattening farms; Increase the quantity and improve the quality of the animal feed industry; Take full advantage of the existing meat slaughtering and processing capacity; Increase institutional capacity for medical-veterinary and zootechnical assistance; Increase jobs; Mobilize partnerships and external investors for the production, conservation, distribution and processing of products of animal origin.
