Entry into force notes

The Decree shall enter into force as from 1 July 1999, except of paragraph 5 of article 46 to Presidential Decree No. 420/93 as amended, which shall enter into force on the day of publication of the present Decree.

Abstract

This Decree, in compliance with Council Directive 97/78/EC, amends and replaces the provisions of Part C (articles 31 up to 53) to Presidential Decree 420/1993. Part C lays down the requirements applying on veterinary checks on products from third countries introduced into the national territory or through it, into one of the territories of other Member States. For products for which there is no specific Community regulation, the conditions of current national provisions are maintained. The present Decree provides for the organisation, on-spot inspections and effects of checks, safeguard actions on the notification of animal diseases within the Community. The provisions of this Decree shall be without prejudice to obligations arising from customs rules. The General Veterinary Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture may make use of the Community financial assistance provided for in Article 38 of Decision 90/424/EEC for the implementation of this Decree. Annexes ΣΤ (“territories listed in article 1”) and Θ (“approved requirements for border inspection posts”) of Presidential Decree 420/1993 are hereby replaced and a new Annex I (“physical check of the products”) is added.
