The Law consists of 29 articles, divided into 4 Chapters: General Provisions (I); Registration and Naming the Varieties of Public-Owned Plants (II); Registration of the New Plant Varieties with a Private Ownership (III); Final Provisions (IV). The Law encourages private investment for development of the national, regional and local plant varieties. It also regulates provisions for search, exploitation, registration and use of plant varieties. The Agricultural Research Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock is obliged to name and register national, regional and local varieties of plants based on the botanical and agricultural characteristics.
