Abstract This Act provides for the control of diseases and pests affecting plants and plant material. Subject to this Act, no person shall import into Trinidad and Tobago any fruits, planting material, plant pest, pathogens, plant products, soil, vegetables or any other prescribed articles (including notifiable pest or notifiable disease) unless (s)he first obtains a permit in accordance with the provisions of this Act or the Regulations. Applications for permits shall be made to the Chief Technical Officer through the Plant Quarantine Service in the manner prescribed. The Minister may by Order as (s)he thinks necessary or expedient for preventing the spread of any plant pest or disease in Trinidad and Tobago, take specified measures and prohibit or regulate importation of restricted articles. The Act also, among other things, sets out powers of Plant Quarantine Officers; establishes a Plant Quarantine Service; specifies powers; defines the duties of land owners and occupiers; and define offences.
