Abstract

The Plant Disease Regulation Ordinance 1944 defines some key terms, such as plant, pest, plant disease, container, etc. The Regulations empowers the Governor in Council to make regulations for various purposes, such as prohibiting, restricting, or regulating the importation of plants and related goods or things, prescribing the conditions and places for such importation, providing for the detention, examination, destruction, or treatment of such goods or things, eradicating pests or plant diseases, and prescribing fees and charges. The document also prohibits the introduction of any living pests, fungi, bacteria, or dried specimens of plant diseases into the Falkland Islands without the written permission of the Governor. The document also provides for the penalties for contravening any regulation made under the ordinance, including the forfeiture and disposal of the goods or things in question.
