Nonetheless, the registered owner may retain possession of pasture land within the ceiling prescribed by the legislation in force, and the government may grant exemption for the purpose of horticulture, animal husbandry, herbal farming and tea plantation. The Act provides also for the payment to registered owners of a compensation to be determined on the recommendation of an ad hoc committee. The protection of and the pasturage on such lands is entrusted to the local Village Panchayat. The latter shall be under obligation to allow all to continue grazing their animals on pasture lands under its control on payment of a pasturage fee. Full text English
