The Bureau shall, among other things: formulate polices and strategies pertinent to land and environmental protection; administer the land resources of the Oromia Region; ascertain land rights and approve land transactions; provide with respect to land use planning; carry out cadastral survey and register land holdings, prepares land holding certificate and issues to the legal land holders; register and approve transaction agreement of land holding and use right; provide for compensation in case of expropriation; carry out supervision on environment impact assessment; regulate the disposal of different pollutants and waste materials; regulate and monitor any damaging effects on natural resources including habitats and wildlife; in collaboration with concerned bodies issues or cause to be issued trading; hunting; farming licenses and render technical support to persons who deal in forest and wild life products.
