Ordinance on mining waste (SFS 2013:319). Country/Territory Sweden Document type Regulation Date 2008 (2013) Source FAO, FAOLEX Subject Mineral resources, Waste & hazardous substances Keyword Mining Waste disposal Hazardous waste Authorization/permit Waste management Geographical area Arctic, Europe, Europe and Central Asia, European Union Countries, North Atlantic, North Sea, North-East Atlantic, Northern Europe Entry into force notes 1 July 2013. This Regulation shall not apply to mining waste facilities which closed by 31 August 2008. Abstract This Regulation lays down rules on precautions to prevent or minimize adverse effects on the environment caused from the management of waste from industry extracting of substances (mining industry). The document made under the Environmental Code provides rules relative to the handling and disposal of extraction waste, i.e. (hazardous) waste originating from prospecting, extraction and processing of mineral resources and other mining materials. One of the aims of the Regulation is to prevent pollution to groundwater and the environment in general. It specifies safety measures and procedures for the granting of permits for waste handling installations. The Regulation applies to the description of the extractive waste from exploration, extraction and processing – in particular if (1) waste comes from a mine site and the production or manufacturing activities will give rise to waste, (2) to the total amount of waste, (3) transportation of waste, (4) chemical products used in processing and product stability, (5) any hazardous characteristics listed in Annex 1 of the Waste Regulation Solution (2011:927), and (6) whether waste is hazardous.
