Abstract

The Ministry establishes that state biosphere reserve of federal significance “Central Forest” shall have the status of state environmental protection, scientific research and educational institution with the scope of conservation and study of unique natural processes, wild animal and wild plant genetic resources, some animal and plant populations, and typical and unique ecosystems. Reserve shall make part of the international network of UNESCO biosphere reserves. State biosphere reserve “Central Forest” shall be located in Tver province. Reserve shall have the following purposes: (a) conservation, recovery and reproduction of wild fauna and biological diversity, conservation of natural ecosystems; (b) research; (c) ecological monitoring; (d) ecological education; and (e) environmental audit. The following activities shall be prohibited on the territory of reserve: (a) all types of hunting; (b) all kinds of fisheries; (c) modification of hydrological regime; (d) construction; (e) application of chemicals and fertilizers; (f) procurement of non-timber forest products; and (h) introduction and acclimatization of living organisms.
