Abstract Deputy minister orders to set up State commission on geo-information systems and to validate the Regulation on its activity and sphere of competence. State commission on geo-information systems subordinated to the Committee on geodesy and cartography of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural resources is an expert institution, coordinating activity on elaboration, introduction and use of geo-information systems. The main tasks of the Committee are: 1. determination of common scientific and technical policy in the field of elaboration and use of geo-information systems in Russia; 2. coordination of activity for the creation of federal, regional, municipal and sectoral geo-information systems by enterprises, institutions and organizations subordinated to various ministries and departments; 3. assistance in carrying out mutually beneficial cooperation of the ministries and the departments concerned with the respective foreign organizations as regards the problems of geo-information systems.
