Abstract

These Sanitary Rules "Sanitary and Epidemiological Requirements for Radiation Safety" establish sanitary and epidemiological requirements for ensuring radiation safety when selecting a land plot, when designing, construction, reconstruction, overhaul, commissioning, operation and decommissioning of radiation facilities, handling sources of ionizing radiation (sealed and unsealed radionuclide sources, radioactive substances, radioisotope devices and equipment generating ionizing radiation), management of radioactive waste, use of materials and products contaminated with or containing radionuclides, radiation monitoring, the use of personal protective equipment and personal hygiene, medical exposures, exposure to natural sources of ionizing radiation and radiation accidents. Sanitary rules shall apply to all natural and legal persons, carrying out: (a) design, construction, reconstruction, overhaul, commissioning and decommissioning of radiation facilities, extraction, production, storage, use, transportation of radioactive of radioactive substances and other sources of ionizing radiation; (b) collection, storage, processing, transportation and disposal of radioactive waste; (c) assembly, repair and adjustment of devices, facilities and apparatuses, the operation of which is based on ionizing radiation sources and devices generating ionizing radiation; and (d) radiation control of man-made sources of ionizing radiation. Sanitary Rules also apply to natural persons and legal entities, whose activities affect the level of human exposure to natural sources of ionizing radiation, and organizations carrying out work in the territory contaminated by radioactive substances.
