Abstract

The State Ecological Inspection is a special sub-division of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and is operating under its jurisdiction. The Inspection, within its sphere of competence, shall ensure the realization of the state policy in the sphere of environmental protection, rational use and reproduction of natural resources, ensuring ecological and radiation safety within Crimea peninsula. The main tasks of the Inspection shall be: 1) environmental protection (land, surface water, atmosphere, forests, animal kingdom and plant life, natural resources of the continental shelf and EEZ of Ukraine), environmental monitoring; 2) environmental and radiation safety; 3) the state supervision over the observance of the legislation on environmental protection (except for subsoil), ecological and radiation safety (except for sites under the jurisdiction of the State Nuclear Regulatory Committee, waste management; 4) observance of emission standards in the atmosphere and discharge of pollutants into water basins; 5) observance of the ecological requirements in the process of neutralization, treatment and burial (storage) of pesticides and agrochemicals, toxic and radioactive waste, domestic and non-domestic waste, biotechnological products. The State Ecological Inspection shall inspect the following objects: 1) harbours; 2) enterprises, institutions and organizations which activity can have negative impact on marine environment; 3) all the Ukrainian and foreign vessels, marine works operating in the maritime zone.
