Abstract

This Order applies to the import of food into and/or via Denmark, with the exception of non-food of animal origin imported from other EU Member States and released for free circulation; if the latter is released for free circulation in Denmark, it will be subject to provisions relative to certain contaminants in foodstuff and to related EU legislation in this area. The Order also sets regulations concerning the protection of human consumers from non-authorized GMO food, radioactive products and food as well as food exposed to pesticides. It is mandatory that food of animal-origins is being inspected prior to being introduced in Denmark in order to ensure prevention of animal diseases and pests in humans. Certain food is not eligible for import in Denmark, however these restrictions are revoked in cases pest and disease tests on the imported commodities have been carried out at approved laboratories and resulting in harmless to human health. The following is subject to said control testing: mussels or living fish and mussels transported in water, Scombridae, Clupeidae, Coryfenidae, Pomatomidae og Scombresosidae from Albania (Chapter 3), crustaceans from Bangladesh (Chapter 5) – it is however forbidden to import betel leaf originating in or consigned from Bangladesh (Chapter 28), fishery products from the Republic of Guinea (Chapter 8), aquaculture products from India (Chapter 9), animal food originating from fish and aquaculture products, non-EU approved and GMO commodities from China (Chapters 13-14), molluscs from Peru (Chapter 20), fresh meat, meat and meat products of wild feathered game in or consigned from all regions of Switzerland (Chapter 23), live and chilled bivalve molluscs from Turkey (Chapter 25). Registration of imported commodities must be finalized within 24 hours from arrival in Denmark and submitted to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, which is the authority regulating and ensuring the implementation of this Order’s provisions in line with EU directives.
