Abstract

The objectives of the Water Safety Plan are: (a) identifying and reducing health risks caused by unsafe water; (b) encouraging and motivating citizens to take action for improving living conditions and their access to information and safe drinking water; (c) ensure cooperation between all persons responsible for water supply; (d) creation of a water quality monitoring system depending on the identified threats; and (e) increased consumer awareness regarding drinking water quality, sources of pollution and water protection. The purpose of these National Guidelines is to provide guidance to operators of drinking water supply systems in the Republic of Moldova in the development and implementation of water safety plans for public water supply and sewerage systems. A hazard is represented by any biological, physical or radiological agent that can adversely affect the quality of water, making it unfit for human consumption. Effective risk management requires identifying all possible hazards, their origins, the adverse effects they may cause, and an assessment of each of them.
