Abstract

The Polesie Reserve has been set up in the estrangement zone for the purpose of carrying out the complex arrangements for the prevention of spreading of radioactive nuclides outside the contamination zone, conservation of the ecological balance of natural ecosystems, radiation and environmental monitoring of flora and fauna, radiobiological nature management and environmental protection. Land of the Polesie Reserve shall be considered of environmental importance. Activity aimed at the ensuring radiation safety of the territory, environmental protection arrangements and scientific research shall be authorized on the territory of the Polesie Reserve. The Polesie Reserve shall carry out the following functions: 1) prevention of spreading of radioactive nuclides; 2) protection of territory in conformity with the functional zoning; 3) forest fire protection and pest management; 4) ecosystem conservation; 5) radiation control. Permanent residence of the population, unauthorized stay of persons and timber rafting shall be prohibited on the territory of the Polesie Reserve.
