Abstract

The Regulation consists of 6 Sections dealing with the following matters: 1) general provisions (sect. 1); 2) identification of cattle and registration thereof in the farms (sect. 2); 3) transfer of cattle (sect. 3); 4) slaughtering, death, loss, recycling of the identified animals (sect. 4); 5) substitution of tags, certificates and veterinary cards in case of spoilage or damage thereof (sect. 5); 6) registration of cattle (sect. 6). The Regulation establishes the modalities of identification and registration of cattle. The provisions of the Regulation shall be mandatory. All the animals that are kept bred or stay on the national territory shall be subject to identification and registration. Identification and registration of cattle shall be carried out for the following purposes: 1) access to reliable information regarding cattle stock and its classification by sex. age, breed and location; 2) protection of the national territory against epizootic diseases; 3) preventive arrangements, medical treatment and liquidation of infectious, invasive and non-infectious animal diseases; 4) improvement of the reliability of information in the process of certification of pedigree (genetic) resources; 5) visual identification of each animal in the herd. Identification and registration of cattle shall include: 1) registration of farm; 2) record; 3) attachment of tags; 4) registration of the identified animals on the farm; 5) issuing veterinary certificate and veterinary card; 6) registration in the herd book of the information regarding transfer, death (loss), slaughtering, recycling of animals. All the animals shall be identified by two tags that shall be attached to each ear and shall be kept for the whole animal life. Each tag must contain the same identification number. Identification number shall be composed of twelve symbols structured in the following manner: 1) positions one and two shall contain country code in letters; 2) positions three and four shall contain province code in figures; 3) positions five to twelve shall contain the last nine figures of the identification number of the animal of which the last five figures shall correspond to the working number of the animal.
