Abstract

This Order establishes for the year 2018 an exceptional regime for by-catch species in Purse seine fisheries, Article 7(2) of the Regulation on Seine fishing. Landing of by-catch species by purse-seine fishing method will be regulated as follows: Exceptionally, licensed vessels for siege fishing method and subject to the fishing logbook obligation are allowed to land, in each trip, with a limit of 20 trips by the end of 2018, a percentage of by-catch species greater than 20%. These provisions shall be in force until 31 December 2018. The owners of the involved vessels are obliged to inform, within 24 hours, the Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services (DGRM), about the landing of by-catch species exceeding 20%, through the website of the above mentioned Directorate-General. The DGRM shall inform the DOCAPESCA - Portos and Lotas, S.A, based on the record of the landings in the lot and of the fishing logbooks, when the limit of 20 trips is reached by each vessel.
