Abstract

This Order approves the Radioactivity Environmental Monitoring Programme (PRAD). It aims to control the degree of radioactivity in the environment, foodstuff and water for human consumption, defining the means of sampling, the types of measurements, their periodicity and the minimum requirements for each record. These provisions are not applicable, nor do they conflict with the National Environmental Radioactivity Alert Network (RADNET). The Portuguese Environment Agency, I.P. (APA, I.P.), as the competent authority for radiological protection and nuclear safety, is the coordinating entity for the application of the PRAD, with technical functions of planning, supervising and evaluating its implementation. The execution of the PRAD follows the terms defined in the attached Annex. For the implementation of the PRAD, APA, I.P., may resort to technically qualified and equipped entities for the purpose and to the technical support entities provided for in article 14 of Decree-Law No. 108/2018 of 3 December. The PRAD is reviewed every five years and the APA, I.P., may annually make changes to the Programme, namely in the means of sampling, in the types of measurements and their periodicity.
