Abstract

Rules for the transition from traditional agricultural production to organic farming determine the procedure for the transition from traditional agricultural production to organic farming. Organic crop production shall be intended production of agricultural crops, using soil cultivation methods aimed at preserving its natural fertility, using special crop rotations with cultivation of legumes and other green manure crops, using organic fertilizers that have passed the stage of composting or anaerobic fermentation, and also without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and plant growth regulators. Organic animal husbandry shall be intended raising breeds or livestock species obtained from parents bred in organic production or past the transition period during which the rules were applied to organic production capable of adapting to local conditions, resistant to disease. Transition period (conversion) shall be intended the period of time required for transition to an organic way of farming, during which shall be applicable requirements set for organic production. Traditional agricultural production shall be intended activities for production of agricultural commodities, without differentiation into organic and non-organic agricultural commodities. The transition period can only begin after the premises of the production units are put into the control system and after it has started to execute these Rules and requirements for organic agricultural production in accordance with the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of organic agricultural production, Standards, by the conclusion of agreement with the certification body. The period of transition from traditional to organic agricultural production shall start: (a) two years before sowing or planting (for annual plants); (b) two years before grazing or harvesting on pastures or meadows for use as organic feed; and (c) three years before the harvest of organic products, (for perennial plants, except for fodder plants). Rules for maintaining the Register of Producers of organic agricultural commodities shall be intended an information system containing data on manufacturers (operators) of production and types of organic commodities produced, processed, or traded thereby. The register must be publicly available and published annually at the website of the authorized body in the field of agriculture.
