Abstract

The Order sets regulations on the trade of food requiring labelling to refer to its organic production methods. The commodities include organically-raised animals, feedstuff with animal contents and intended for animals (organic pet food), production of organic aquaculture (including organic seaweed), production of all organic multicellular marine algae, phytoplankton and microalgae produced in organic aquaculture. Commercial operators must report activities to the national Veterinary and Food Administration on related organic production, labelling and trade. Sodium nitrite (E250) and potassium nitrate (E252) may only be used in the processing of organically produced meat products after prior authorization from the Administration. Should an organic fish farm use water used in conventional fish farming, it is a prerequisite that there is an upstream distance to the farms of at least 500 meters. In the treatment of water in which aquaculture animals are present, it is permissible to use the following substances: 1) Rock salt/sea salt. 2) Hydrogen peroxide. 3) Sodium percarbonate. 4) Mixture of brinoverilte and peracetic acid. 5) Calcium Hydroxide. Organic food, pet food and aquaculture animals and products must be labeled with the inspection code number by the operator carrying out the last part of the cooking process or production. The code number for Danish Veterinary and Food Administration is DK-ØKO-100.
