Abstract

The Order sets regulations with regard to qualification criteria required for seafarers/fishermen and maritime competence licences. These are endorsed by regulations and restrictions under the STCW Convention and STCW-F Convention pursuing Appendix 1. For service on fishing vessels, the following competence is require: completion of commercial fishing safety course, seaman training base module. Personnel may serve on fishing vessels, regardless of these requirementss, if demonstrated they have been employed at least two yearss in the fishing sector within the last five years prior to 1 September 1996 or if they completed an approved maritime safety course for fishermen prior to 1 September 1991. Fishing vessel captains are required to hold a valid certificate as radio operator in GMDSS (GOC, LRC or ROC), to have completed a commercial fishing certification, to hold a health certificate, and to having worked in the fisheries sector one year between 1 Februar 1995 and 1 Februar 2000.
