The fishery inspectorate shall carry out the following functions: (a) protection, reproduction and management of fishery resources; (b) prevention and suppression of environmental offences; (c) protection of fishing water bodies against poaching; (d) safe keeping of fishing vessels and fishing gear in the fishing areas; (e) supervision and development of fisheries; and (f) prevention of illegal trade of catch. The fishery inspectorate shall have the following plenary powers: (a) to draw up reports on administrative offences; and (b) to detain unauthorized persons for illegal purchase or theft of catch.
