Abstract This Order aims to monitoring algal sites, including production areas and breeding sites, where harvesting of mussels takes place. It applies to the use of clean sea water used for cleaning and conditioning of mussels. Food Administration authorities may establish rules for the suspension of such production, should there be alert of poison in the specified algal areas which may compromise the quality of mussel harvesting. Research and analysis is therefore implemented. By-catch of wild mussels may only be released for sale if the primary producer submits and provides analysis for the presence of toxins to the Food Administration, that the results meet health standards of food hygiene regulations, and that the species is suitable for human consumption. In the latter case, microbiological analysis results must meet health standards regulations which shall be subject to classification criteria and selection by the Food Administration. For each batch of harvested mussels, the primary producer shall register a hygiene regulation form to ensure traceability. All expenses in connection with procurement, submission and testing of samples and reporting of analytical results required under this Order, including any costs of risk associated with it, shall not be covered by the Food Administration.
