Abstract This Order establishes the National Programme for the Rescue of Wild Fauna (Rescue+) under the Ministry of the Environment. The Rescue Programme (Resgate+) aims to: provide the implementation of tools for rescuing, providing emergency veterinary medical care, and providing assistance to wild fauna in situation of risk and vulnerability, in the six Brazilian biomes; mitigate the loss of biodiversity resulting from the occurrence of extreme natural events or environmental accidents caused by anthropic action; and guide the proper disposal of animals treated in rescue and assistance operations. The Rescue+ Programme guidelines are: conservation of biological diversity; defense, protection and well-being of wild animals and the reintegration of their natural habitat; cooperation and engagement of the bodies that are part of the National Environmental System (SISNAMA); encourage volunteering and the participation of the private sector and society in the implementation, funding and operation of wild fauna rescue activities; and promotion of environmental education.
