Abstract

This Act makes provision for the appointment of the Ombudsman by the Governor General and defines the functions and powers of the office. The Ombudsman may carry out investigations regarding administrative action by a public authority and, on basis of the investigation, make recommendations to the public authority. The Act sets out the procedure of investigation. The Ombudsman shall keep a register of complaints. Schedule II sets out matters that cannot be subject to investigation by the Ombudsman.
