Abstract

Chief Directorate of State Trade Inspection in connection with forthcoming requests referring to the information regarding the presence of injurious preservatives in imported foodstuffs clears up that on the package of the most part of imported foodstuffs are stamped indexes E103, E210, E311, E450 and others that are unknown to the Russian consumers. The aforesaid indexes mean the authorization to use food additives. Specialized international organization – Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JEFF) of FAO/WHO on contaminants (pollutants) issues authorization for the use of food additives. European Community has an analogous Commission that is referred to with the letter “E” (which stands for Europe). State Committee on Epidemiological Survey of Russia is authorized institution entitled to establish the extent of the use of food additives and the list of them for the Russian Federation. The present information must be taking into consideration and serves as guidance.
