Abstract

This Act provides for the establishment of the Ward Development Fund and the Ward Development Fund Committee and for the financing and implementation of development projects in Nyeri County. The purpose of this Act is to promote county development at ward level. In particular, the Act aims at, among other things, promoting rural development, alleviating poverty and providing financial resources for basic services such as health, education, county road construction and maintenance, county transport, communication and water. The Committee shall be responsible for the management of the Fund. There is established the Ward Development Committee for each ward. The functions of the Ward Committee shall be— (a) prepare a list of all proposed projects; (b) maintaining proper records and books of the committee; (c) monitoring the implementation of the projects; (d) such other functions as shall be mandated by the Committee. Development projects shall be submitted to the ward development committee. Such project proposals shall be in line with the Nyeri County Integrated Development Plan. Environmental activities may be considered as development projects for the purposes of this Act.
