These Regulations will come into force on 1 January 1999.
Abstract

These Regulations concern nutrition labelling of foodstuffs delivered to the ultimate consumer. They do not apply to mineral waters, diet food, and food supplements. Nutrition labelling shall be optional except in all cases were a nutrition claim appears on the label, presentation or advertisement (reg. 2). Regulation 4 specifies permitted nutrition claims. Regulation 5 specifies information, which shall be given when nutrition labelling is provided. Regulations 6 and 7 prescribe the method of declaration of energy values of food. The Schedule lists vitamins and minerals which may be declared and their recommended daily allowances (RDAs).
