Abstract

The present Regulation enacts the Water Protection Act. The purpose of the Regulation is to protect water quality by encouraging responsible nutrient planning and by regulating or prohibiting: a) the application to land of substances containing nitrogen or phosphorus; and b) the development of certain types of nutrient generating facilities in areas where water bodies or groundwater are sensitive to impact. The text consists of 26 sections divided into 7 Parts as follows: Definitions, interpretation and purpose (1); Water quality management zones for nutrient management (2); Application of nutrients (3); Activities in zone N4, zone N4 land converted to zone N5, and the nutrient buffer zone (4); Nutrient Management Plans (5); Transitional orders re existing operations (6); Appeals to Minister (7). One Schedule is enclosed concerning vulnerable water bodies.
