Abstract

The present Regulations are made under section 19 of the Northwest Territories Lands Act. Section 2 establishes that the areas of the Northwest Territories that are under the administration of the Commissioner and that are not part of the Mackenzie Valley unless otherwise provided for in the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act (Canada), are set apart and appropriated as a land management zone, and these regulations apply in that zone. The text – consisting of 46 sections – deals with the following aspects: appointment of engineers, appointment of inspectors, exemptions from Regulations, prohibitions, excavations, water crossings, clearing of lines, monuments, archaeological sites, restoration of permit area, emergencies, permits, terms and conditions of permit, reports, final plan, land division and plans, duties and powers of inspectors, suspension of a land use operation, cancellation of permit, appeals, fees.
