This Norm, consisting of 14 articles divided into six Chapters and four Annexes, provides criteria and standards for the exploitation of alive species of native freshwater stingrays (Potamotrygonidae) for ornamental and aquarium purposes. It allows, in the Amazon and Araguaia-Tocantins Hydrographic Basins, within the limits of the states of Amazonas and Pará, the capture of alive species of freshwater stingrays according to the species and quantities listed in Annex II. The capture of alive stingrays in Brazilian jurisdictional waters outside the established limits is prohibited. Transport, sale and resale of alive species of freshwater stingrays, throughout the national territory for ornamental and aquarium purposes is allowed only for the species listed in Annex II. The capture and trade of alive freshwater stingrays whose size is greater than the length established in Annex II, as well as the removal of fetuses, shall be prohibited for ornamental and aquarium purposes. The Norm is divided as follows: Capture and Exploitation (Chap. II); Distribution of Sale Quotes (Chap. III); Resale (Chap. IV); Transport (Chap. V). Annexes deal with the List of authorized and prohibited freshwater stingrays species and model form to import/export.
