Abstract

This Act, consisting of 28 articles and divided into six Parts, establishes the Nigerian Council of Food Science and Technology, its membership and defines its functions and duties: regulation, facilitation and promotion of the practice of food profession in Nigeria; determination of the standards of knowledge for the persons involved in the profession of food science and technology; promotion of the highest standards of competence, practice and conduct among the members of food profession; ensuring the registration of persons entitled to practice food profession and of the premises used for that purpose; determination of professional fees for members of the food profession. Matters covered by the Act concern: appointment of registrar and preparation of the register; procedural matters for registration of members and premises; establishment of the Council’s fund and the related financial provisions; penalties for unprofessional conduct; establishment of investigating panel and disciplinary tribunal.
